True Colors (UCAR/NCAR LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group)
True Colors is UCAR/NCAR's Employee Resource Group for LGBTQ+ staff, providing a space to talk about unique issues facing queer staff and advocate for solutions among leadership. I've been a member of the group since 2020, and in 2023 I joined the leadership team as Communications Lead! I love being a part of this group and representing UCAR/NCAR at Boulder and Longmont's Pride festivals in 2022 and 2023!
Emergency Management Club
|
The Penn State Emergency Management Club, for which I served as treasurer for two years, provided hazardous weather briefings for high-impact events, such as home football games and the annual 48-hour dance marathon. Attached is a briefing prepared for a potential winter storm, which addressed the meteorological background, assesses the risks of significant hazards, and gives recommendations as to what event planners should be prepared for.
The club also worked on projects to prepare the university for emergency, including assisting with the Threat Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (THIRA), becoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certified, and mapping which buildings on campus could be used to shelter large groups of people. |
Campus Weather Service
The Penn State Campus Weather Service is a student-run forecasting and video production service to the university. Videos are produced multiple times daily and are uploaded to YouTube and broadcast through the Penn State Department of Communication's Centre County Report and the local CNET channel.
During my time as an undergraduate, I served on multiple forecasting and video shifts, including as a shift leader. These opportunities offered me first-hand experience working with studio and graphics equipment and software, helped improve my communication skills, and gave me a newfound appreciation for the hard work broadcast meteorologists do. All of my video forecasts can be found here. |
