Welcome to my portfolio! I am an Associate Scientist in the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) lab at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO. I received my Master's degree in Communication from the University of Kentucky in 2019, and my B.S. in meteorology at The Pennsylvania State University in 2017.
My research explores the roles of authoritative sources of weather information, such as the National Weather Service, broadcast meteorologists, and emergency managers, in the information and communication system during weather disasters. In particular, I focus on how authoritative sources use imagery, especially on social media networks, to engage at-risk members of the public and promote protective action taking when hazardous weather strikes. I am a multi-methods researcher - my current and previous research includes quantitative and qualitative methods, including quantitative survey analysis, qualitative textual analysis, network analyses, and spatial analyses. Additionally, I am a skilled user of multiple analysis and visualization software and languages, including Python, SPSS, QGIS, ArcGIS, NVivo, and Microsoft Excel. I am originally from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and I now reside in Longmont, Colorado with my partner and my dog, Bo. I love hiking and biking in beautiful Colorado, jamming out to all sorts of music, and I'm a passionate advocate for public transit and walkable spaces! |
